Writing Plans for the Year 2019

blog header writing-plans-2019

With half of January already being over, I thought that it was really time to set out my writing plans for the year.  I’m trying not to be too hard on myself — that is to say, not trying to write four novels in one year or working myself to a standstill in order to get things within the first few months of the year. Rather, I’m forcing myself to focus on having 12 months in the year, don’t you know!

That said, I do have a few main projects that I’ll be working on during the year and these are a radio drama, Porselein, The Knowledge Stones, Grove of Graves, and Charms of Life and Death. The last three of these are part of The Ruon Chronicles.

The Radio Drama That Still Needs a Title

I want to enter the one local radio drama competition again this year. My idea for the drama is (in short) a ghost story and I already have a few scenes as well as the ending in mind. I will also need to write this during daytime, methinks. I kind of creeped myself out already! Well, that should make for a good scene!

The drama will be in Afrikaans, though I’ll probably give more worldbuilding notes, etc. here as I am also busy with another short story that is also a ghost story. (What makes you think I’ve been listening to a lot of paranormal podcasts…)

Also known in my mind as The Afrikaans Novel Whose Outline is Taking Much Longer Than I Thought, is the second of the Afrikaans projects for the year. I’m planning the novel a lot more than my other projects thus far, which is turning out to be both a very good idea and very challenging!

At the moment I’m focusing on jump cuts and the like and, of course, a new character showed up who, though needed, made me have to rewrite the outline for the beginning of the book. But, I admit, it works better now!

The Knowledge Stones

This novel, that makes up part of The Ruon Chronicles, started out as a sequel for a flash piece I wrote and then morphed into a short story and, well… it kind of got out of hand until it finally formed a prequel to the main series I’m planning.

Grove of Graves

Luckily the novella Grove of Graves doesn’t need a huge edit, but I do want to check it against The Knowledge Stones for consistency, seeing as how The Knowledge Stones had turned into a novel since I started writing it!

Technically Grove of Graves only happens after The Knowledge Stones but it can be read as a standalone.

Charms of Life and Death

The first book of the main series for The Ruon Chronicles, Charms will be my novel for NaNoWriMo in November this year. That gives me time until October, basically, to work on All The Other Stuff and then I can use October for preparation and November for writing.

Other bits and bobs

Of course, I will still be blogging away during this time and hope to take part in Microcosms twice a month. I’ll also keep writing for The Mighty and maybe even one or two other things … that are still Top Secret for now!
