Fiction and studies and Twitter, oh my!
On my fiction writing
I finally seem to be back on track with the flash fiction competitions after sitting out for a couple of weeks. I put aside a weekend for writing and really made a point of writing over the weekend and not find a million other things I could be doing and stalling because I couldn’t seem to find an immediate idea of what to write. I wrote a story for both Cracked Flash Fiction and Flash Mob Writes and these I’ll post during the week.
Not quite a writing update
The main reason why I haven’t been writing as much as I would like – well, fiction writing – is that my studies have been taking up a lot of my time. This month I am busy with a beginner’s course in Photoshop and a foundation course in digital marketing (both through Shaw Academy); both of which are proving to be extremely interesting. I’ve also started a small “writing for children” course which I hope will help me with my writing overall. Then there are a few Edx courses I’m also busy with…
As a bit of practice for the Photoshop course I have been playing around with covers for my flash fiction anthology and I’m quite happy with the last one I made. I’ve also decided on the title Dim Mirrors. What do you think?
For the digital marketing practice, I am helping out my uncle with his business marketing and it seems to be paying off in leads already!
In other sort-of-writing-news
A project I have been playing around with a lot over the past months has finally started, though it is mostly for Afrikaans speakers and those who understand Afrikaans. It is a Twitter account called “Bleeksiel Onbeperk” (Nerd Unlimited) and strives to bring all the nerd/geek news to Twitter users in Afrikaans. The links still go to English articles though, so if you want to check it out, you can go to @BleeksielOnbpk (you’ll also be able to follow about 90% of the hashtags if you don’t understand Afrikaans). The posts, unlike my main Twitter account (@CarinMarais) does not only contain things which I follow closely and find interesting, but a lot of news about other TV shows, etc.
Those of you who follow my blog posts would also have noticed that I am posting more Afrikaans blog posts (on the weekends) and this is because I have decided to make a point of writing more Afrikaans, especially as I’m busy with an Afrikaans short story anthology as well.
Upcoming blog posts
I have finished a few “article” blog posts that will be posting over the coming weeks. I’ve also decided to do more posts in the line of the “Time Management Tips”. The articles are mostly about those things which are close to my heart and which I really feel I need to put out there. I hope you enjoy them even if they aren’t all rainbow unicorns and pink clouds.
Hope you all have a wonderful week!
